Salse Engineering Associates, Inc. (SEA) is a firm providing structural engineering services related to new construction and remodeling/repair of existing facilities. SEA is a licensed professional structural engineering corporation with the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation and is certified as a DBE with the City of Chicago, CTA and other agencies.
SEA was founded in May, 1987 by Eduardo A.B. Salse, a 1959 civil engineering graduate of the University of Colorado. Since its beginning SEA has provided structural engineering services in the area of evaluation of structural problems, including field testing, rehabilitation and expert opinions in legal proceedings. New building design is also a strong part of SEA's business. Over the years SEA has grown and continues to grow, always improving operations to serve its clients with greater efficiency and promptness.
SEA is dedicated to providing a high quality engineering product including opinions, recommendations, and designs based on sound engineering knowledge well supported by current research and engineering literature. Excellence in engineering requires individuals who are truly concerned with the problem they are attempting to solve or analyze. This concern for sound, reasonable and practical solutions is what characterizes SEAs work.
SEA performs field and laboratory testing of concrete, masonry, steel and wood. Tests include petrographic analysis, chloride ion concentration, compressive strength of masonry and concrete, tensile and chemical tests of steel samples, evaluation of weld quality, quality control inspection of installation of reinforced concrete and structural steel. Other field tests often used in evaluation work include steel corrosion evaluation, magnetic location of steel in concrete, and electronic strain measurement. Design work includes prestressed concrete and earthquake resistance analysis.
